How does Printlooper work for designers?

What is the designer role on Printlooper?
Designers are the creators who upload printable 3D files and make them available to sellers on the Printlooper marketplace. You retain ownership of your work under the Printlooper Standard License (PSL) while granting limited listing and manufacturing rights to sellers and order-scoped access to suppliers. You do not print, ship, or manage inventory, your job is to publish high-quality, validated designs and earn royalties when those designs sell.
Printlooper automates the path from file upload to payout. After you connect Stripe for royalties and verify your account, you upload STL or 3MF files, add titles, tags, renders, and listing detail, then publish when ready. Sellers discover your designs in the marketplace and turn them into storefront products; suppliers manufacture only what customers order.
How do uploads and validation work?
Printlooper accepts STL and 3MF uploads up to 500 MB per file. After upload, the platform checks that each mesh is watertight, manifold, and at least 2 mm in all dimensions. It also extracts bounding box, volume, and estimated weight so sellers and suppliers see accurate production metadata before anyone lists the design.
Files can stay in draft while you refine renders, descriptions, and tags. Nothing appears in the marketplace until you explicitly publish. If geometry fails validation, you fix the model in your CAD or mesh tools and re-upload rather than discovering print failures downstream.
How are my files protected?
Sellers can list your design but never download the raw STL or 3MF. Buyers see product pages and renders only. When a supplier is assigned an order, they receive temporary access through a signed link that expires after 14 days and is revoked once the order ships.
The PSL version active at publish time is snapshotted with each product, so licensing terms stay stable for orders already in flight. Printlooper does not use uploaded files to train AI models without your explicit consent.
How do I earn and get paid?
Designer royalties are plan-based: 6% on Free, 9% on Basic, and 12% on Pro. The royalty is calculated on retail price and snapshotted when a seller publishes a product version.
Payouts run through Stripe Connect after orders ship. Free pays every 2 weeks, Basic pays weekly, and Pro pays within 48 hours. Upload limits are 50 files on Free, 100 on Basic, and 300 on Pro, counting drafts and published designs in your library.
What makes a design succeed on the marketplace?
The designs sellers list fastest combine clean printable geometry with practical listing detail: watertight meshes, realistic tolerances, clear material and orientation notes, strong titles and tags, and marketplace-ready renders or photos. You can update metadata anytime and upload new file versions when geometry changes; existing orders stay tied to the prior snapshot while new orders use the latest published version.
Designers who make seller setup easy, documenting infill expectations, split parts, or preferred materials, tend to get picked up more often. Your public creator profile showcases your portfolio and helps sellers discover your catalog.
